Barnawapara Project Division, Raipur
To achieve the objectives of C.G.R.V.V.N., suitable forest areas have been transferred, on lease, by the State Forest Department to the Nigam from time to time. As on today the total forest area with CGRVVN is 1,97,157.133 hectare The forest area leased out to the Nigam is distributed in 6 Project Divisions as per details given below :-

FORMATION:
Barnawapara Project Division, Raipur was formed in the revenue district of Raipur in terms of notification no. 5131-4114-X(2)75 dated 30-10-1975 issued by Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.
OBJECTIVE
- To improve the quality and productivity of the forests in the project areas of the Raipur district.
- To raise plantations of teak ,bamboo and other Misc.Species
COMPOSITION
The total forest area 35,201.471 ha. of the division is divided into 5 Ranges, 15 Sub Ranges, and 33 beats. The central nursery of the Division is located at Raikera and the Timber Depot at Birkoni.
PLANTATIONS
Commercial plantation of Teak, Bamboo and other species was started in the year 1976 and so far the Division has undertaken the plantation in 29039.880 ha. area.

HI-TECH PLANTAION - TEAK
Since 1997, the Nigam is raising Hi- Tech Teak Plantationswith the following aims :-
- Maximizeproduction in minimumtime.
- Enhanceproductivity per hectare.

NURSERY
The Central Nursery of Barnawapara Project Division is located at Raikera, about 70 Km. from Raipur. The nursery produces more than 25 lakhs plants per year. It is equipped with tube wells, sprinklers and other irrigation systems and this nursery caters to the planting stock requirement of the Division. Progress of the last 5 Years is given below :-

As per the Bio-fuel policy of the State Government 9.0 lakhs Jatropha plants were also prepared during the year 2005 in addition to the Teak planting stock.

Ancillary Projects
The Nigam is also carrying out plantations of Sisal (Agave sislana), Aonla and Jatropha (Jatropha carcus) for employment generation for forest dependent Scheduled Tribe families. Self Help Groups/Committees have been formed for making Sisal fiber/rope and lifestyle/ utility articles from Sisal plantations to generate additional income of Rs. 1200 - 1500 per month for at least 8 months in a year.
